Want to work at offshore but don’t know where to start?
This post is to quickly give you guidance on where to start.
Firstly, start with the basics – your documents.
Without these, recruiters won’t even consider you.
Here’s the bare minimum documents you need for offshore jobs:
1. Passport
✔️ Valid for at least 6 more months.
No passport = no job.
2. Seaman’s Book
✔️ Even merchant fleet experience helps.
Make sure your sea time is properly recorded.
3. STCW Certificates
You absolutely need:
• Basic Safety Training
• Security Awareness
• PSA or PDSD (depending on vessel type)
4. Offshore Medical Certificate (OGUK / PEME)
✔️ OGUK is the most widely accepted.
Check what your target company requires.
5. CV in Offshore Format + LinkedIn Profile
If they can’t find you , they won’t hire you.
Recruiters search LinkedIn before reading emails. Be visible.
Everything else comes later.
No docs = no career.
